Cameron Hamilton is used to getting what he wants, especially when it comes to women. But when Avery Morgansten comes crashing into his life – literally – he finally meets the one person who can resist his soulful baby blues. But Cam’s not ready to give up. He can’t get the feisty and intriguing girl out of his head.
Avery has secrets, secrets that keep her from admitting the feelings Cam knows she has for him. Will persistence (and some delicious homemade cookies) help him break down her barriers and gain her trust? Or will he be shut out of Avery's life, losing his first real shot at the kind of love that lasts forever?
If you've read Wait For You and my review I did what seems like forever ago, you'll know I connected with Avery on a very personal level. I admired her for her bravery, and loved Jennifer all the more for handling the issue with such care. That's not to say I didn't love Cam, oh no I was head over heels for the guy, so getting his POV felt like winning the jackpot. Oh Cam. It was like falling in love all over again. To say we see a different side to Cam is an understatement, we not only have the whole behind the scenes action but never before seen scenes. I was in a constant state of warm fuzzies when it came to Cam and his family, they were just so sweet, loving and supportive and it was hard not to go all 'awww'. We do of course get to know more about Jase, Ollie and Cam's family. The bond between Jase, Ollie and himself is amplified in this book, and it was actually really sweet how they all stuck together through the good and bad. They're more like brothers than anything I think, and I absolutely loved that about them because they'd go from winding each other up to having each others backs like that. Of course it was also incredibly amusing when reading their scenes, despite how Ollie is described and comes across there is definitely something more going on behind the laid back facade, and damn don't get me started on Jase. Jennifer fits it all in so perfectly, setting a little of the backdrop for Jase and Teresa and just helping us draw that connection to the characters before we get their story.
"She's not like any other girl you've gone out with. She's fucking awkward as hell and quiet. She's pretty but--"
"She's fucking beautiful," I cut in, daring him to disagree.
He didn't. "Is she worth this?"
"Yes,"
I held the door open and the moment we stepped out into the hall, Ollie burst out from our apartment, cell phone in one hand and a wiggling Raphael in the other. What the...?
"Smile!" Ollie snapped a picture. "It's like my two kids are going to prom."
Our gazes locked and something infinite passed between us, a spark I swore I could almost see with my eyes.
What was kind of shocking to witness was Cam's fear and insecurity. Behind the playful, cocky persona he dreads what one moment of anger could mean for him and Avery. Before it was all about Avery's secret, and in this one it's about Cam's and with Avery's shy and awkward personality, well it's enough to make any guy second guess themselves. Through his POV Jennifer illustrates how much the consequences of his actions have affected him and those around him, the struggle he has between feeling regret and rage, and call me twisted but I actually admired him all the more and the love he has for his sister is just so fabulously endearing. I just wanted to hug him! That's not to say it doesn't make you question what you would do in his situation or Avery's for the matter, because it does and you'd be surprised with the answers. While I loved Cam in Wait For You, I loved him in Trust In Me. I just became so invested in his character, wondering how he'd handle another hurdle or what he'd say next. His thought process was incredibly sweet, and brutally honest which I admired not many guys around like that. Seeing through his eyes I guess in a sense I understood him better, and it made his relationship with Avery all the more delightful.
The realization shook me to the core. I stared into those warm, whiskey-colored eyes and I wanted to see my future there--our future there. Never in my life had I ever wanted to see that when I stared into a chick's eyes, but with Avery Morgansten, I wanted nothing more.
"I've missed you," she whispered.
In that moment, whatever happened between us after I had seen her scar didn't matter. I buried my hand in her hair, pressing her closer. "I've missed you, sweetheart."
"When I said you looked great? I wasn't being completely honest."
"You don't think I look great?"
"No." I trailed a hand up her spine, stopping just below her hair as I pressed me temple against hers. "You look beautiful tonight."
